MEET WILL
I focus on the two critical factors shown to make the biggest difference in therapy.
The first is an equal relationship. I’ll bring understanding about mental health to the table; you’ll be the expert in you. Together, we’ll work toward your treatment goals in a way that is congruent with your identities (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation identity, religious affiliation, and how these identities affect mental health).
The second significant factor is using cognitive behavioral treatments that have demonstrated effectiveness through research. These therapies not only help you overcome today’s problems, but set you up with skills to resolve future ones, too. I could fish with you for the day, but I’d rather teach you how to fish. In the long run, you’ll leave with the strategies you need.
I was born and raised in Utah. I have a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Utah and completed clinical training at the South Texas VA, specializing in trauma psychology. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I am an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. While these are still my main areas of practice, I am licensed to provide virtual therapy sessions in most US states.
I have received awards from the American Psychological Association and published peer-reviewed journal articles on the psychology of men, sexual minority mental health, psychological trauma, and women and career development.
After work, I enjoy reading, fitness, and exploring small Texas towns.
